Oil to clean your face? Absolutely! The oil cleansing method has been on the skincare scene for a little while now, but there are still some who are - understandably - hesitant to jump on the bandwagon. Slathering an extra layer of oil on your skin sounds like the last thing you’d want to, especially if you have oily or acne-prone skin. But as it turns out, this approach to cleansing works for all skin types.
How Does the Oil Cleansing Method Work?
Based on the principle that like dissolves like, the oil cleansing method involves using oil - instead of soap - to clear away dirt and oil without stripping the skin of its natural moisture. It is used by some as the first step in the popular ‘double cleanse’ to remove makeup before washing their face, and by others as their sole cleansing method. Either way, all you need is a soft wash cloth and oil.
Step 1
Place the hot, damp washcloth on your face for 20 seconds, allowing the steam to loosen any dirt and oil.
Step 2
Apply your cleansing oil, and massage it in with your fingertips for 30 seconds.
Step 3
Use the washcloth to gently wipe away the oil, and voila!
